With the baby just starting to walk, I have been contemplating how to better utilize the floor plan in our 50's split level house. Currently there is a lot of wasted space in the living room/dining room area. So...voila! This is my first mood board, and my take on a possible mid-century inspired solution for the room!

1. Honeycomb Pendant from Dwell
2. Circuit Wall Candleholder from Crate & Barrel
3. Table lamp from Target
4. Lane side table- hunt Ebay & antique stores
5. Sylvia Sofa from Macy's
6. Pillows from West Elm
7. Paul McCobb Lounge chair- hunt Ebay & antique stores
8. Lane coffee table- hunt Ebay & antique stores
9. Ermina wool rug- Overstock
So there you have it! Insta-shopping list! This was a fun little project, so there may be more on the way!

Fly Your Flag

These banners & flags are awesome! One of them from Z Gallerie is over $300 though!!! Since I am a fan of typography & hand lettering, I have been contemplating buying some canvas and making my own! The plan is to use street names & towns from where my husband and I grew up! He thinks I am nuts, but I think it will be great! Now I just need to find some time & motivation!

One of the Greats!

Today we lost a great, Lena Horne. I first saw her in Cabin in the Sky and she instantly became one of my favorites! If you don't know who she is, or haven't seen her movies of listened to her music... you should definitely look her up! What an amazing voice!

Hot Rod Baby

Here is little Sheena sitting on Poppy's '52 Chevy. This thing is a blast to drive but there aren't any seatbelts yet, so we haven't been able to take the baby out in it. But I came up with a solution!

A while ago I saw the cutest 1932 Ford Roaster pedal car.... I couldn't resist getting it for Sheena! She is far too little to drive the thing yet, but that gives us plenty of time to customize it!
Then there are these super cute coveralls from Hula Mula ... so she can be stylin' in the garage!
So cute I can't even stand it!

A little ditty

Here is something I painted in watercolor a while ago. It's a study, based on some Sailor Jerry work. I wish the scan came out a little better. This was really only the 2nd or 3rd watercolor I have done, so I think it came out pretty good. I am still working out technical issues, like how to do better shading, masking, line work, etc. I used coffee for the background color, ala Angelique Houtkamp. She is an amazing tattoo artist/artist worth checking out! I have been dying to get her "Marie" print for my nautical themed bathroom...

Rip it up, tear it down

Over the past few days we started renovating our laundry room. It was the ugliest room in the whole house and hadn't been updated once since 1953. We have been using the washer & dryer that the house came with, and I think they were from the 60's! They still work, but they aren't anywhere near energy efficient using about 35 gal. of water per load! Horrific!

Here are some pictures I was using for inspiration, still stickin to the vintage/retro theme.

I had been looking for a jadite-like color (see below) and found some Behr paint at Home Depot that was similiar. The floor tiles are very dark, almost black, so I decided to use black paint for the trim to echo that. I will update with more pictures soon.

No Monsters Allowed

These two prints by Point Blank Design currently grace the walls of my kitchen.

I just got this print from Hen N Chicks to replace my Night of the Living Dead poster in the hallway, because I thought it might scare the baby. This one is cute though, and will go in the kitchen also.

Then I saw this from John W. Golden , and thought it would be funny to counteract all the monsters/skulls I have going on in the house. Funny, no?

Bright Lights

We have a black and white dining room, fully equipped with very large photos of the Ramones, and The Stooges. Every piece of furniture is vintage, done in black or white laquer. The room is almost complete except for the horrific brass ceiling mount, which came with the house. I have been investigating some mid-century modern lighting updates. I really love the lightness of the first light by Crystorama. I also love the bottom two lights by Rejuvenation.
This is going to be a big splurge for the house, so I am trying to find something with an interesting look or light pattern to add effect to the room.

Rock and Roll Heaven

These are some rock and roll spaces, dreamed up by 2 amazing designers... Kim Montenegro of Very Bad Horse, and Agatha Blois. One specializes in amazing denim, and the other in custom leather and perfumes(Carnival Wax). I am still trying to figure out how I can incorporate some of these elements into my own house. Top image is from a past issue of Inked Magazine featuring Agatha, all others are from Very Bad Horse.

On a sad side note, Kim is closing her V.B.H. store in Philly and will be selling her line through her website. It's a shame because I thought her old store was amazing, and didn't get a chance to visit the new one yet. I love the spraypainted(?) couch on the bottom!

Cute and cuter! Does a green dress count as an homage to St. Patties day??
